I have just recently started my actual career in esthetics! FINALLY!!! I'm so excited to actually start working in my field that I absolutely love!!! For anyone whos wondering, no you don't have clients banging down your door at first. And let me tell you I have worked 8 hour days unpaid and boy was that a shock! But then I realized , I have to sell myself! Educate clients on what you do! How can you expect your employer to pay you salary fresh out of school, with no client base? In all reality, they want to test your motivation and drive . You have to make your own work! And hey, some people just aren't interested, but sometimes they might know people who are! I have been into esthetics less than a month, and there's highs and lows. My first day I had more clients than I've had in the past two weeks! I got so discouraged my first day with no clients, I broke down. The truth is I want to be busy, I want so many clients who want all different things! At first I blamed it on the fact that I work in a hair salon, which is technically not ideal. Bur hey, maybe that afterthought eyebrow wax client wants to try a facial someday down the road ! Heres hoping! I started off so desperate I was giving complimentary hand massages, which can work in your favor but also against it. Some clients will take it and see complimentary fly out of your mouth, won't tip but you might get a good conversation out of it. Tell them your the new esthetician, explain what you do, maybe a mini consultation? Always be positive when talking to your potential clients! Don't moan about not having clients! Promote what the spa you work at provides! It can also work against you, those clients that take hand massages may just want to read their magazine and hold their hand out and not talk to you at all. Some people dont want to be bothered! It can be very hard to read! Clients can also take complimentary services as itching for a tip and selling them something they didn't come in for. It doesn't hurt to try! I took a break from hand massages and just started approaching clients with foils when their hairdresser stepped away, introduced myself and passed out my card to them! They always take it! Whenever you actually have a client, be personable - no one wants to have girl time with no girl talk! Also, even though your client comes in for a wax, ask them what they use on their skin. Ask them if it works for them, they might be in need of a serious skincare regimen intervention! I'm still learning though - this is just what I've learned so far! I haven't even been in it long enough to see returning clients but I have a feeling what I'm doing so far should be working! Once I build my clientele, I would love to share with you how I did it! But until I do that, I will just keep spreading my around my passion for skincare!

All about hair!!!

SO I have naturally straight, fine hair. Technically I have to wash my hair everyday because it gets so oily &matted to my head! But, I don't like to wash my hair everyday because I don't want to damage it with heat from my hairdryer &straightener so I decided to try some dry shampoos. First I went cheap with Treseme` Fresh Start. WORST thing EVER. DO NOT waste your money. This isn't worth ONE CENT. All this did  was put white powder in my head, made my hair even more greasy &flattened it!  UGH!!! So, then I tried the Oscar Blandi dry shampoo. TERRIBLE. Same problem that Fresh Start gave me. This is CRAP for $11 (I bought the travel one to test it). So, I laid off dry shampoos for a while until the summer just started getting so ridiculously hot that i can't stand to dry my hair! I went to Ulta &bought Rockaholic dry shampoo &conditioner. Rockaholic is AMAZING. It gives my hair volume &absorbs all the oil in my hair without making it look dull! I think it was around $20 for each of them but it's worth it! It smells amazing, makes it look like I just washed my hair! I also got Batiste ($8) to try &that one works good too. I like Rockaholic the best though, Batiste is worth getting if your looking for a cheaper alternative. I ended up actually trying Rockaholic Energizing Shampoo (regular standard liquid stuff) &I really like that too! I absolutely LOVE the brand Kenra too, their shampoo smells like creamsicle &its pearly orange colored. UH, YUM! Alterna is PRICEY, but they are a great line of hair care also. My hair is pretty low maintenance though because i rarely colour it. I do straighten my hair everyday but don't use it too hot and my hair is already straight so I only spend about five minutes basically just taming frizz. I don't use hairspray unless I curl my hair, which is never. So I don't mind spending extra cash on shampoo &other things. The best drugstore shampoo &conditioner I found is Infusium 23. I think it's around about $7-8 but that's reasonable.

I was in the drugstore looking for a good conditioner. I came across this little bottle by Aussie called 3 minute miracle deeeeeeeep conditioner. I opened  it &sniffed it &fell in love because I LOVE coconut scents. It was only $3 so it was worth a shot to try. So next time I went in the shower, I took a small amount out of the tube, seperated half the amount for my roots &half for my ends. Once I got out of the shower, dried &straightened my hair, it felt SO soft &shiny &healthy ! I can't live without this conditioner now. I use it probably about every other day even though its more of a once a week thing, but I love it so much. Aussie shampoo is pretty good too, I'd buy it again. .

Grand Opening Entry!

Hello beauty junkies &gurus alike! My name is Kristi and I've been thinking about beauty blogging for SUCH a long time &finally decided to do it! I want to share with everyone my makeup/skincare/haircare/everything girly obsession! haha. I should tell you, I AM a professional. I graduated Catherine Hinds Institute of Esthetics with a 1200 hour master esthetics certificate. I am not a 'makeup artist' persay. Although, that doesn't mean that I'm still not obsessed with it. Most of the makeup techniques I have learned on my own. CHI doesn't go very in depth on makeup, we only touched on the basics. BUT, with that in mind, i am a professional when it comes to skincare. I have tried a buttload of different products with my less than perfect skin, and i want to share with you my findings! I'm SO excited to finally be writing about all my favorite things!!!

stay beautiful xo kristi <3
